Workshop Services

Three Services.
One Disciplined Approach.

From a routine movement service to a multi-month vintage restoration, each piece that enters the workshop is handled by hand and returned with a written record of the work performed.

How We Work

A Methodical Process, Stated in Advance

Before any work begins, the piece is assessed and the scope of work is agreed in writing. Nothing is replaced without the owner's knowledge — and nothing is rushed.

1

Assess

The watch is examined under magnification. Movement condition, case wear, and crystal integrity are noted in a short written assessment before any further steps are taken.

2

Agree

A scope of work and cost is confirmed with the owner. If additional issues are found during disassembly, these are communicated before any changes are made to the original agreement.

3

Document

Work is recorded in writing with before-and-after photographs. The finished piece is returned with a copy of the work record — a useful addition to any private archive or family history.

Services Offered

Three Tiers of Workshop Service

Each service is priced and scoped clearly. Owners are welcome to contact the workshop to discuss which option suits their particular piece.

Service 01

Mechanical Movement Service

A bench service for hand-wound and self-winding pieces, focused on cleaning, lubrication, and timing adjustment. The movement is removed from the case and disassembled to inspect the escapement, mainspring barrel, balance wheel, and train wheels for wear.

Parts that are worn or damaged are sourced from established suppliers where modern equivalents are available; otherwise components are carefully reconditioned by hand. The piece is reassembled with appropriate lubricants and timed on a calibration machine.

  • Full movement disassembly and component inspection
  • Escapement, mainspring, balance wheel examination
  • Correct lubricants applied per calibre type
  • Multi-position timing on calibration machine
  • Written condition note and before-and-after photographs

Process

  1. 01Initial examination and condition note
  2. 02Case opening and movement removal
  3. 03Full disassembly and component cleaning
  4. 04Parts inspection and sourcing where needed
  5. 05Reassembly with correct lubricants applied
  6. 06Multi-position timing on calibration machine
  7. 07Final inspection, photography, and handover

Service 02

Case Refinishing & Crystal Replacement

A workshop service for restoring brushed and polished surfaces on metal cases and bracelets, and for fitting replacement crystals where required. Light surface marks are reduced by hand using a sequence of pads and compounds chosen to match the original finish.

Where appropriate, the original brushing pattern is preserved or recreated stroke by stroke. Sapphire, mineral, and acrylic crystals can be sourced and fitted; gaskets are replaced and water-resistance is tested to the manufacturer's specification where possible. Case markings, engravings, and signed casebacks are left untouched.

  • Surface preparation matched to original finish type
  • Original brushing pattern preserved or carefully recreated
  • Crystal sourcing and fitting (sapphire, mineral, or acrylic)
  • Gasket replacement and water-resistance testing
  • Engravings and caseback markings left untouched

Service 03

Full Vintage Restoration Project

An extended workshop project for older mechanical pieces that need attention beyond routine bench service. Movements are fully disassembled, components are individually cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, then inspected under magnification for parts that require replacement or careful reconditioning.

Cases, crystals, dials, and hands are addressed as part of the same project where the owner approves. Source parts come from established horological suppliers; in some cases components are fabricated in-house when modern replacements are not available. The finished piece is delivered with a written record suitable for a private archive or family records.

  • Full disassembly with ultrasonic component cleaning
  • Individual magnified inspection of all parts
  • Case, crystal, dial, and hands addressed together
  • In-house part fabrication when originals unavailable
  • Full photographic record and written archive delivered

Workshop Standards

Shared Across All Services

Regardless of which service a piece requires, the same standards apply throughout the workshop.

Magnification & Inspection

All components are examined under appropriate magnification before and after work. Nothing leaves the bench without visual confirmation of condition.

Correct Lubricants

Movements are lubricated with oils and greases selected for each calibre type. Quantity and placement follow technical service documentation for the movement in hand.

Timing Verification

Every movement that passes through the workshop is checked on a calibration machine across multiple positions before being returned to its case.

Photographic Record

Before-and-after photographs are taken for movement services and restoration projects. These accompany the piece when it is returned to the owner.

Secure Storage

Pieces in progress are stored securely within the workshop at all times. Work is carried out in-house and is not passed to external parties.

Written Documentation

A written note accompanies every returned piece. For restoration projects, the record is detailed enough to serve as a reference for future servicing or family records.
